Secrets of Productivity: Kill The Phrase “I Don’t Have Time”

Secrets of Productivity: Kill The Phrase “I Don’t Have Time”

Everyone on this planet, including the most successful entrepreneurs, has the same amount of time in the day. It’s how we spend that time that differentiates us.

Spend Your Time Wisely

“I want to start doing X” or “I would love to do Y” or “I admire person A for doing B, I wish I could do that”. Sound familiar? Either from your own personal musings or those of people you know? The most common excuse on the planet for not doing stuff: “I don’t have enough time”.

spend your time wisely

Ok, fine. Most people are legitimately busy and have little spare time. The point is not our lack of time slots during the day, but how we chose to spend them. How we rank our day is where human beings differ greatly from one another.

Always keep one thing in mind. You have more than enough time to do the things needed to generate side income. Your day job is not what’s holding you back. Remember, we all have the same amount of hours in our day.

As a Casual Capitalist, “I don’t have time” is no longer a part of our vocabulary. If you are honest with yourself, “I don’t have time” actually means “I don’t want to make time”.

In addition to priorities, most people don’t know how to be productive. These two realities handcuff most would-be entrepreneurs. We are here to help.

Secrets of Productivity – An Entrepreneur’s Story

An Entrepreneur's Story

A quick story will illustrate my point. Jessica and Mario, close friends of mine, are military parents with twin babies and a 4 year old. For a period of one year, Mario was on deployment, with Jessica at home with 3 children. Did I mention Jessica has a demanding full-time job as a military officer?

Despite all the demands of infant twins and an active toddler, Jessica is killing it on Airbnb. Every night Jessica manages her vacation property in Florida through Airbnb and has enjoyed a stellar 90% occupancy rate. I’m sorry, what were you saying about your time? Please continue.

What Jessica taught me is the casualness with which we can all have part-time entrepreneurial endeavors. It wasn’t her first priority, or her fourth for that matter. But Jessica made time to work as a property manager through Airbnb, and is making some serious cash ($14,000 a year to be exact).

Jessica has carved out 1 hour every night to run her small business. Hosting on Airbnb is a small business, and it can be done with minimal time commitment.

Side Hustle Priorities

Instead of saying “I have no time for part-time work”, instead you mean “part-time work is not a priority for me”. And that’s fine. But the fact that you are reading this means you want some financial flexibility.

But whose priorities are you fulfilling right now? Are they yours? If making some side income and saving money is a priority for you, commit to setting aside 1 a day to pursue these goals. Open your schedule, todo list, or calender now and block off the time.

There are 168 hours a week, set aside 7 for you and your casual capitalism. It’s your time, start taking control of it. Start by educating yourself. By reading this blog you are succeeding. Keep doing this, and begin exploring other resources.

Action items will follow education. Before diving in to the deep end of income production you need to acclimate to the water temperature. You need to maximize productivity by educating, organizing, and setting goals.

As always, stay tuned for more.
