Motion Invest vs Empire Flippers

Just like there are many different places that you can buy new clothes, there are also many different website brokers and website buyers.

Motion Invest just might be the perfect middle ground where you can get a great content site without having to sift through hundreds of low quality sites.

If you are a deal hunter, then you might spend your time combing through the clearance section at a store like TJ Maxx or Ross Dress For Less.

There are some good deals to be had here but you will need to spend your time carefully going through every item on the rack to find them.  This is what my experience trying to buy a site on brokers like Flippa has been.  I’m sure that there are good deals there, but more often than not, I end up with a XXXL shirt or a size 14 pair of New Balances that I end up deciding not to purchase.

Empire Flippers on the other hand is like going to the stores where all the cool kids shop.  Imagine your 16 again and your parents just gave you their credit card and you’re at the mall, time to head over to Abercrombie, Foot Locker, Hot Topic or whatever premium store your teenage persona fits into.

Now, let’s say that you don’t want to spend hours at a discount store searching for that elusive pair of Tommy Hilfiger jeans that fit you properly, but also don’t want to spend extra money for that premium A&F Logo, this is where Motion Invest comes in.

In a nutshell, Motion Invest has quality sites as a fair price.

What Makes Motion Invest Different?

They use a unique “Dutch Auction” where the price of the sites listed on the platform will automatically decrease over a given time period.

How do the sites make money?

Since Motion Invest only lists content sites, they are able to list and sell the sites faster than other platforms like Empire Flippers.  This is due to the simple nature of content sites.  In most cases, content sites earn revenue from display ad networks like Google Adsense, Ezoic, Mediavine and Raptive or from Affiliate Sales like the Amazon Associates Program.

These sites are not shipping physical products so the revenue and website traffic is much easier to verify, which generally results in a faster selling time and migration to the new buyer.

How to Properly Vet Sites and Do Proper Due diligence?

All sites listed on Motion Invest go through a preliminary vetting to verify website traffic and revenue.

BUT as a buyer, these need to be re-verified to make sure that they are accurate.

The first step is to contact the seller or support staff and ask for your email address to be added to the seller’s Google Analytics Account.  Now you can start to verify the website traffic in real time and determine if it is legitimate or not.

I also suggest arranging a video call with the seller and having them share their screen to show the revenue generating components like their display network dashboard.

One step further is to have them prepare their banking information for the call so that you can verify the payout amounts.

How to make the purchase?

Once you have done your due diligence and chatted with the seller and feel ready to buy the site, you can either pay the full asking price by adding the site to your cart and paying a $1,000 non-refundable deposit with a credit card.

If you like the site but don’t want to pay full-price, then you can also make an offer for the seller to consider.

Just be aware that high quality sites can get sold fast and a seller will always take a full price offer over a lower one.

How does motion invest compare to Empire Flippers and Flippa?

Like I mentioned in the introduction, Motion Invest is that happy medium between Flippa and Empire Flippers.

Flippa has thousands of sites ranging from low quality sites, to scams, to diamonds in the rough.  You can absolutely find a good deal on Flippa, but you are going to have to put the time in and search through hundreds of businesses before finding a suitable one.

The best thing about Empire Flippers is that their team thoroughly vets all of their sites and makes 99.9% sure that the site is legitimate.  This makes your due diligence job much easier.

The sellers on Empire Flippers are also much more professional than on Flippa and so are the support staff.  You will have someone there to help with the purchase, migration and post-sale support.

The only downside is that this level of service has a price tag and the sites that you find on Empire Flippers will have a higher monthly multiple and price tag than less curated brokers.

At any given time, Motion Invest generally only has about 50 sites for sale and they are all content sites.  This makes it much easier to view their entire inventory and find a suitable site.

Since they only list content sites for sale, you have also eliminated 90% of the other sites you would need to sift through on a platform like Flippa.

Finally, Motion Invest lists sites for lower multiples than Empire Flippers and accepts sites under $50,000 which Empire Flippers usually does not.

This means that you can find a decent site ranging from $2,000-50,000 that you would otherwise not be able to find on EF.

EF vs Flippa

Which Brokerage Is Right For You?

If you’re looking to buy a website, I recommend looking at all 3 platforms.  Flippa can be could if you have a niche in mind because you can just enter it into their search feature.  Empire Flippers is also great to check out if you are just getting started because their thorough vetting process will eliminate some of the risk you face when buying a website.

If you’re looking for a content site for only a few thousand dollars or a more established site in the low six-figures then Motion Invest might be the right platform for you.

Buying and Selling a website is a big decision so taking a look at all the potential options is almost always worth it.

Good luck with your search!
